Etchings

Some of my recent etchings- mostly intaglio with aquatint, plus some engravings, or a combination of the two.

2026

Cat, bird

Pure engravings, but with the look and feel of sumi-e. The red inkan stamp represents my signature and shows the native, traditional weaving pattern of the tribe from the region I was born. Series of 4, each an engraving on 1 metal plate plus aquatint on a second plate, printed on etching paper. Image 40x30cm, frame 70x50cm

Day Dream

An imaginary place and time. Intricate and wholesome… Engraving on 2 metal plates, printed on etching paper. Image 40x30cm, frame 70x50cm

viewports to the sea

If you look at the sea… what do you observe? Intaglio and aquatint etching on 3 metal plates, printed on etching paper. Image 40x30cm, frame 70x50cm

Cemeteries of the World

This diptych symbolizes the relationship of various religions towards nature. From the choosing of burial grounds, much can be told. Intaglio with aquatint etching, each printed from 4 copper plates. Images 40x30cm, frames 70x50cm.

Burning Sunflowers

In some places our world is burning… Engraving on metal plate, printed on etching paper. Image 30x40cm, frame 50x70cm.

Siphonophore

This animal actually exists. Check the internet. If you thought ‘humans’ were complex…. Intaglio with aquatint etching, printed from 4 copper plates. Image 40x30cm, frame 70x50cm.

Guards

But who lives here? Engraving on 2 metal plates, printed on etching paper. Image 40x30cm, frame 70x50cm.

2025

Last patches of snow

Atmospheric, low detail. Despite the cooler colors and fog, it feels like a promise. Intaglio etching combined with engraving, printed from 4 copper plates. Image 40x30cm, frame 70x50cm.

Fruit and Vegetable aisle

Our disconnect with the source. Engraving on 1 single metal plate, printed on etching paper. Image 40x30cm, frame 70x50cm.

Mallard flight

The most classical, timeless etching. As if it has been hanging in a library for ages. Intaglio with aquatint etching, printed from 4 copper plates. Image 40x30cm, frame 70x50cm.

Victorian Conservatory

A study of perspectives combined with refined etching techniques. Printed from 5 copper plates. Image 40x30cm, frame 70x50cm.

Quiet Passage

The geometry of a curve is casually broken by… a cat. Intaglio and aquatint etching, printed from 6 copper plates. Image 40x30cm, frame 70x50cm.

Carceri

Inspired by the master, my version is suggestive rather than the more descriptive original Piranesi series. Engraving on metal plate, printed on etching paper. Image 30x40cm, frame 50x70cm.

Early memory

Reflecting a comforting children’s book illustration. Intaglio and aquatint etching, printed from 4 copper plates. Image 40x30cm, frame 70x50cm.

At dawn

This jumping hare resulted from many experiments on capturing movement. Intaglio etching, printed from 5 copper plates. Image 40x30cm, frame 70x50cm.

Still life with primate

The obligatory classical Still Life, executed in a 2026 experimental etching technique. The line work detail is unrivaled. Intaglio etching, printed from 1 metal plate on etching paper. Image 40x30cm, frame 70x50cm

The passing of time

This work, with all its imperfections, is intimate and soothing. Intaglio etching, printed from 5 copper plates. Image 40x30cm, frame 70x50cm

Past and Present in one

This work shows the past- the sea- and the present where we live meters below sea level. Very Dutch. Intaglio etching, aquatint. Printed from 4 copper plates. Image 40x30cm, frame 70x50cm
